What is Bellies For Life?

Bellies For Life is an annual all belly dance breast cancer fund raiser.
All proceeds of this yearly event are donated to a chosen breast cancer organization. Thanks to the special amazingly supportive community in Champaign-Urbana, almost everything required for this night is either donated (the space by the HighDive, for example) or accounted for by volunteers (dancers, emcee, doormen, camera man etc.). This minimizes the costs and maximizes the total donation.
Other than money we are striving to raise, via this festive event, breast cancer awareness and encourage young women to perform self exams.
Bellies For Life also aims at further exposing the local crowd to the art of Belly Dance in all of its classic and modern forms. This is a night of fun and entertainment, all the while for a superiorly good cause.

Who are we?

The heart of Bellies For Life are the belly dancers of Reflections Dance Company, the troupe of Pangaea Dance Studio.
But since no man is an island producing such an event simply cannot be accomplished solely by "us", it also means other key volunteers: Heath (Pangaea Dance Studio's drummer), students of Pangaea Dance Studio, local dancers from other studios (see the volunteers page), our (extremely supportive) significant others, our dear friends (who fill in for emcee, door men and so on).

How can you help?

  • Save the date (and show up) - March 8th 2008 @ 7pm at the HighDive!
  • Spread the word: We need all the publicity that we can get. Let your family, friends, teachers, doctors neighbors and bus driver know about this beautiful charity. If you have friends at the Media, maybe you can talk someone into donating a free ad.
  • You may contact us for fliers and distribute those in your work place or community center.
  • You can donate items for the semi annual garage sale (one in August and one in January), where all proceeds are forwarded to the Bellies For Life fund (we use the money to produce the fund raiser, but since the expenses are minuscule most of the garage sale money is forwarded to the breast cancer organization).
